Can anyone say goodbye DSP chip based hardware (Universal Audio). Worked at Apple as a software QA engineer back in early 2000s.ġ000 tracks, 960 plugins (Space Designer reverbs), no dropping, pausing, no GUI issues. Additionally, I am an Apple engineer, audio guy and musician. IMO it's worth it to wait for this for numerous reasons.Įven this M1 as the first and "slowest" Apple silicon we will ever see, it is 3 x's more powerful than any Intel chip. The M1 that Apple put in the three currently available Apple Silicon Macs is pretty cool, but the next one will blow the current i9 in the 16" MBPs away completely, as well as probably stomp most of the iMac line up.
By that time most plug ins will be ported, the next version of DP should be announced or available and probably Apple Silicon compatible, and the 16" Macbook Pro plus probably the iMac will be sporting the higher core count next chip Apple releases. In general if you want an easy life it's best to wait until at least the second quarter of 2021 before thinking about switching to an M1 mac. The thing is though, even with Logic 90% of your plug ins will be running in Rosetta mode, it's not like you're getting that much juice out of the seeming fact that Logic can host Rosetta plug ins. It's also in line with recent upgrades from MOTU for DP. This is IMO the earliest possible time for DP to be ported natively to M1 macs. That said a beta bird told me that they're testing the latest version, and that it takes about 6 months for it to drop after initially getting the first beta. So MOTU like Apple are notoriously silent about updates and upgrades, it's near impossible to predict with any reliability when one will drop.
